The Cambridgeshire Guided Busway
Construction work on the Guided Busway has attracted a great deal of attention over the last year, and for local residents there has been a lot of disruption because of the work.

The County Council is very sorry for all of the disruption and inconvenience this work has caused. We do understand that it is annoying and frustrating to be surrounded by road works and affected by construction activity.
However, we have achieved some major milestones on the project and laid the busway tracks from Longstanton to the north of Cambridge. Our next phase of work is to lay the track from Longstanton towards St Ives and we are on-schedule to get the busway open and services running in spring 2009. We also still need to build the bus stops along the route (including at Oakington) and finish the bridleway that runs alongside the busway. The building of the bus stops is due to take place in autumn 2008.
As the project has progressed and as people have seen how the busway works, we have received lots of enquires about how people can use the busway.
We thought it would be helpful to provide you with the answers to these questions. If you have any other questions, please do get in contact with us using the details below.
Q. When will the cycle track be usable?
The cycle track (aka the bridleway) will open at the same time as the busway, in spring 2009. We cannot open the cycle track sooner because we are using the land for the cycle track as a construction route, so we minimise the number of our construction vehicles using local roads.
Q. When will buses start to run?
Buses will start carrying passengers on the busway in spring 2009. However, we will be doing more bus testing on the busway later this year and at the beginning of 2009.

Q. Who will run the buses?
Stagecoach and Whippet will run the buses on the busway.
Q. How often and where will the buses run?
The buses will run at least every ten minutes in the peak periods (7 – 9 am and 4 – 6 pm). The exact routes the buses will take have not been agreed with the bus companies yet. When the routes and timetables have been agreed, they will be widely publicised much closer to the time of opening.
Q. How much are tickets likely to cost?
Again, the bus companies have not agreed this yet. When ticket prices have been agreed, they will be widely publicised much closer to the time of opening.
