Transport for Students to Impington Village College

CCC have again sent IVC parents a letter saying they will be withdrawing the school bus for families that live less than 3 miles from IVC.

The route they are using to measure is from people's homes to the guided busway to the unlit crossing at Gatehouse road, then to leave the guided bus pavement and instead go through the busy centre of Histon, as the route to IVC via the guided bus path is longer than 3 miles. Their legal stance is that is unacceptable to have to walk 3 miles to and from school - but perfectly acceptable to walk 2.99 miles each way. They will still be putting on a bus - but will not let all Oakington children on it, even if the distance to the bus stop is the same.

This is with effect from September 2012 - so current Y10, Y9, Y8, Y7 and Y6 children and all subsequent children will be affected, if they live less than 3 miles from School. So there will be a bus for some children in the village - but not for others. So even those lucky enough to be on the "right side" of the village will have to forego travelling with friends and loosen the close bond that supports Oakington children in the much bigger IVC year groups, because they'll be walking 6 miles a day or clogging up Histon in cars. The local councillors are supporting the parents.

If parents on either  side of the 3 mile line would like to help campaign for a safe conclusion, please look at the facebook page OSH (Oakington Safely Home).

There will be a Parish Council Meeting where the issue will be brought up on Monday, 20th February at the Pavillion. The Meeting begins at 7.30pm officially but please arrive for 7.15pm when there will be an opportunity for consultation. Please also email Counsillor Simon Edwards at : simon.edwards@intergrotedcomms.co.uk if you wish to be addded to the mailing list for saving the bus.

This item is from an email sent by Oakington Primary School and is for anyone who doesn't have access to the Parent Mail system.
